Halifax Early Childhood School (HECS) was founded in 1959 by a group of parents interested in providing an enriched program of pre-school activities for their children. HECS is the oldest established pre-school in the city of Halifax.

As a non-profit society funded by tuition fees, HECS is committed to providing a learning environment of the highest quality. All parents and children enrolled are members of the society, which is guided by a volunteer board and managed by a coordinating director.
